The major earthquake of 7.6 magnitudes struck the Central and Western region of Nepal on 25th April 2015.Its aftermath resulted in over 8,790 human casualties and 22,300 injuries. Besides this, the catastrophic event has exposed and exacerbated pre-existing inequities and vulnerabilities along lines of gender, caste/ethnicity, poverty, class, age, physical and mental ability and other social diversities, adversely and disproportionately affecting the most excluded, marginalized, disadvantaged and vulnerable.

Adaptation to Climate Change in the Hydroelectricity Sector in Nepal
Status: Ongoing

Current climate variability and extreme events lead to major impacts and economic costs in Nepal. A recent Climate & Development Knowledge (CDKN) funded study on the economic impacts of climate change in Nepal (IDS, 2014) estimated that the annual cost of current climate variability is equivalent to 1.5% to 2% of current GDP. The study also found that climate change could exacerbate these impacts, leading to potentially much larger costs in the future.
