On June 30th 2026, NDRI organized a Review and Consultative Interaction on the 'Fiscal Policy of FY 2083/84 Concerning Tobacco Products, Alcoholic Beverages, and Sugar-Sweetened Beverages: Reflections and Future Roadmap' at Basera Boutique Hotel, Babarmahal. The event was led by Dr. Jaya Kumar Gurung, Senior Research Specialist, with more than 40 participants, including key experts from different thematic groups like: Fiscal and Revenue, Public Health, Media and Communication, Research, Civil Society and Legal, Policymakers and stakeholders.
The meeting focused on the discussions on understanding the current fiscal (tax) policies related to tobacco products, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages, examining the factors that have hindered the effective implementation of taxation measures on these health-harming products, and identifying additional actions and policy interventions required to strengthen and improve the taxation system in the future.
Ms. Anjana Lamichhane, Ms. Sarya Thapa Magar, and Mr. Pragyan Ghale delivered a presentation on the review of the Fiscal Policy for FY 2083/84 related to tobacco products, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages.
