
Eliminating hunger is a top priority globally and also in Nepal. Zero hunger is one of the most important among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Indeed, it is not acceptable to have people suffer from hunger in this modern age. Governments throughout the world have committed to achieving Zero Hunger by 2030. Nepal is no exception and has made this a high priority.
In the last few decades, Nepal has made some significant progress in improving the household food security and nutrition situation of its population, while there are a multitude of challenges in achieving Zero hunger. This report jointly produced by NDRI and the Policy Research Institute (PRI), presents an analysis of the trends in Nepal in the last few decades, and the current situation vis-à-vis the regional and global context. It also provides an analysis of the trend of food consumption patterns in Nepal, based on the series of national living standard surveys, including the latest survey conducted in 2022-23.
The report also provides an analysis of various factors contributing to food security, an overview of the challenges, the policy landscape, and provides actionable recommendations for towards achieving zero hunger.
